The Forest is a Hollywood movie that tells the story of five people who are stranded in the dark, eerie wilderness after it is set ablaze. The film premiered at Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2014 and received mixed reviews mainly because its acting was not thought-provoking enough for audiences. It grossed $13 million during its opening weekend which is pretty decent but not as much as the makers had hoped for. The Forest is set in Sweden and follows one woman who has to decide whether she stays with her husband or leaves him with their daughter to survive. She takes her daughter up into the mountains ahead of her husband who seems hell bent on rescuing them all by any means necessary. Ana (Natalie Dormer) and her daughter Alex (Taylor Hickson) are on a trip to Borneo when they get separated from Alex's father, Liam (Taylor Kinney). As the forest burns down, Liam is left to face his daughter's death and Ana is left to survive. Ana joins up with three other people who are also lost in the forest: Aiden (Eoin Macken), Anna (Iben Hjejle), and an American couple Jack and Leah (Douglas Smith and Kim Coates). They find a strange abandoned village in the middle of the woods that will help decide their fates. The film has received mixed reviews. It scored a 35% on Rotten Tomatoes among critics and 62% among audience. Some called it "a by-the-numbers haunting story of survival" while some said it was "well made and well acted". The majority of the reviewers were disappointed at the direction the plot took. The Forest received its UK release in July 2015 and grossed £9,136 in less than a week. The Forest opens with a flashback in which a group of people set out in a car to a logging site when suddenly the forest becomes ablaze. The five people struggle to stay alive as the fire burns them down. Only one person manages to survive when they reach an abandoned village that looks quite familiar. They roam around, try to figure out what is going on and discover that the place is actually still inhabited. Ana (Natalie Dormer) is the mother of little Alex (Taylor Hickson). After she and Liam (Taylor Kinney) get separated, he tries to rescue Ana and Alex but fails. The entire forest then burns down and the four people who were with Liam, including his girlfriend Anna (Iben Hjejle), and Ana themselves, get trapped in the woods. Ana is an experienced mountaineer who had been to Borneo before when she was younger with her parents. She had been on a ski trip at a mountain when her friends got lost in the fog. Her colleagues invited her to come along since they didn't know how long they would be out there. They join up with two other friends Carlos (Eoin Macken) and Nadia (Emma Rigby-Delaney). cfa1e77820
